Carson R. Hayden, MD, 90, of Fayetteville, AR passed away July 2, 2023 at his home in Fayetteville. He was born August 14, 1932 in Optimus, AR to Audley and Marie Ward Hayden.
He grew up in Optimus and Mountain View, Arkansas. At the age of 17 he left his senior year at Mountain View High School and joined the US Army where he served four years of active duty. He achieved the rank of Sergeant Major at the age of 22. He went on and served in the Arkansas National Guard and Reserves for a 24-year military service, retiring with the rank of Major.
He attended the University of Arkansas in 1953, attending in 1956 to the UofA Medical School, graduating in 1960. During Dr. Hayden’s Dermatology Residency, he was awarded from the American Medical Association a Certificate of Merit for his research on the Brown Recluse Spider bite and treatment options.
Dr. Hayden practiced dermatology from 1964-2001 at the Evelyn Hills Shopping Center in Fayetteville. He was the first dermatologist to set up practice in the Northwest Arkansas area.
Dr. Hayden enjoyed flying a Twin Cessna 401 with his son Harold to several dermatology offices in Arkansas. He loved being with his family, planting flowers, building skin models, playing the banjo and guitar, singing in his home studio, and driving his 1979 Lincoln Mark V.
Dr. Hayden is survived by a son Harold Hayden of Fayetteville, AR; a daughter Mary Lou Hayden Johnson of Fayetteville, AR; two sisters, Doris Lavern Wolf of Centerton, AR and Glenda Hayden Blue of Batesville, AR; two grandchildren Jeri Ann Neathery of Fayetteville, AR and Leroy Johnson of San Antonio, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents Audley and Marie Ward Hayden and his daughter Lee Ann Neathery.
Dr. Hayden will be laid to rest at Fairview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fayetteville, AR at 10 AM, Monday, July 10, 2023 with full military honors.
A private family viewing will be held (there is no scheduled visitation).
