James Robert Lewis, May 14, 1953~November 29, 2020

Dec 7, 2020

It is with deep regret I tell you Jim Lewis passed away on November 29, 2020 at his home in Fayetteville, Arkansas.  Jim’s daughter, Tricia, who had been living with him, found him in his bedroom.

James Robert Lewis was born May 14, 1953, in San Andreas, California, to Arlene Nielsen Lewis and Walter Robert Lewis.  At the age of 10 they moved to Redding, CA where Jim spent his childhood with his sister, Janis.  He spent three years in the Army stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, an experience he often thought about and shared with family.  In 1975, he was discharged from the Army and married Mary “Sally” O’Gorman.  In 1977, he became the father of twin girls, Tricia and Fran.

In Redding, Jim attended Rother and Parsons schools.  He graduated from Enterprise High School in 1971.  Jim graduated from Chico State University in Chico, CA.

Jim was always an active man.  He loved athletics from early on and, in addition to playing baseball and basketball, he was a walking encyclopedia of sports.  Throughout his life he also picked-up cycling, tennis and dancing, as well as learning to make stained glass and pottery.  He loved nature and spent countless hours hiking the Big Sur coast.  Later in life, he took-up gardening and filled his yard with flowers.

Jim was a wonderful father and son who always included his family and friends in all his activities and excursions.  He gave them his support and time, and truly took pleasure in the company of others.  He was a loving and exceptional man.

Jim is survived by his mother, Arlene Nielsen; his sister, Janis Giedt; and his two daughters, Tricia and Fran.

No services are scheduled at this time.
