Jean “Jeanie” McMannus Cosgrove passed away Thursday, August 7, 2025 at Washington Regional Medical Center.

Jeanie was born on February 19, 1943 in Fayetteville, NC. Jeanie was a teacher, a counselor, an avid reader, a life-long learner, a Master Gardener, and a dog lover. She received her BA in Psychology at the University of North Carolina and her masters at the University of Florida. For the next few years Jeanie taught school in Wyoming and Wisconsin. She then moved to Arkansas, where she taught at West Arc Community College in Fort Smith. Returning to the classroom, she earned her PhD in Psychology at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

On December 19, 1976 Jeanie married Michael Cosgrove. They loved to travel, first settling in Las Vegas, New Mexico where Jeanie taught at the University of New Mexico-Highland and Michael built their home in a rural area of the state. The couple’s next move was to Hollywood, Florida and then to Key Largo where they enjoyed sailing and coastal living. Here, Jeanie taught at Broward Community College and at several universities in southern Florida.

The couple retired in 1999 and moved back to Arkansas where Jeanie enjoyed working at the Arkansas Area on Aging. Knowing they wanted to settle in the Ozarks, they purchase beautiful wooded acres outside of Winslow. Jeanie had volunteered at the Winslow Library, had an impressive annual vegetable garden and Michael built their dream home on the side of a mountain surrounded by nature.

Jeanie is survived by her husband of 50 years, Michael; sister-in-law, Carol Hart; brother-in-law, Bill Hart; nephews, Jacob Hart (wife Mitchelyn) and Josh Hart (wife Kate); and their much loved two dogs, Patty and Enzo.
