Lynette Marie Cranfill, 71, of Fayetteville, passed away November 30, 2025 in Frisco, TX after a hard-fought battle with cancer. She was born July 30, 1954 in Herington, KS to Glenn Elbert and Evelyn Marie Stroda Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Evelyn Anderson and her husband, Les Cranfill.
Lyn graduated from Greenland High School in 1972. Upon graduation she married Gary Southern and together they had their only child Roger Southern in 1976. After years of working various jobs to make ends meet, she decided to go to the University of Arkansas to pursue a career and better life for her and her son. She graduated in 1985 with a BS in Industrial Engineering. Upon graduation and seeking a fresh start, she and Roger moved to Dallas, TX where she started working for Texas Instruments. This took a lot of courage as this was not typical at that time. In 1990 while working for a company called Electrospace, she met a co-worker, Les Cranfill, in the cafeteria and they quickly became lunch buddies. It developed into more and he became the love of her life. In 1992 they were married and together they loved to travel and explore in their RV.
She held various engineering positions in Oklahoma, Kentucky, and Texas. In 2005, Lyn unselfishly gave up her engineering career and returned to live with and help assist with the care of her mother and work for her family business at Anderson Heating & Air. She enjoyed camping with Les and her family, gardening, watching NCIS reruns, and later in life playing and organizing bingo at Nantucket Apartments in Fayetteville. Lyn most of all loved spending time with her family at parties and during the holidays, and loved her dog, Petey.
In 2025 she made a courageous decision to pack up everything including the dog and move back to Texas to live closer to her son in a beautiful and vibrant independent living facility to start an exciting new chapter in her life. Unfortunately, soon after arriving she received her diagnosis and news that nobody wants to hear. Through the process she remained strong as she always was, less concerned about herself, and more so concerned about the impact on her son and family. Up until the end she always said the best thing she did in life is give birth and raise Roger into a man. Forever modest, that statement minimizes all the many accomplishments and all the selfless things she did for others A constant theme in her life was that she always put others ahead of her own interests and loved to take care of people. Constant themes in her life are that she was strong, independent, loved taking care of others, and putting other people’s needs above her own.
She is survived by a son Roger Southern and wife Tania of Frisco, TX; her siblings, Mike Anderson and wife Marlene of Springdale, Greg Anderson and wife Martha of Farmington, Sandy Thompson and husband Keith of Farmington, Steve Anderson of West Fork, Dennis Anderson and wife Jackie of West Fork, Jerry Anderson and wife Tracy of Fayetteville, Barb Ayers and husband Rick of Weeki Wachee, FL, Gary Anderson and wife Denise of Fayetteville, and Pat Anderson and wife Sherry of West Fork; numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and several aunts and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 19, 2025 at Beard’s Funeral Chapel with Deacon Dan Daily officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Washington County Animal Shelter, 801 W Clydesdale Dr, Fayetteville, AR 72701 or 7hills Homeless Center, 1832 S School Ave, Fayetteville, AR 72701 or www.7hillscenter.org
