Mandy,
Today you suddenly popped into my head, so I decided to look you up and reach out. I’ve wanted to tell you this for a long time: you saved my life.
Back in high school, I was a lonely, hopeless kid who felt completely invisible. My mom had disappeared a few years earlier, and I was sinking deep into self-destructive depression. We sat together in math class and would chat between lessons. One day you invited me over to your house, and we watched The Princess Bride together. Later, we even went on a little dinner date at Subway.
I had zero experience with girls, so I’m sure I was incredibly awkward and nothing went further than that. But that didn’t matter. What mattered was how kind you were to me when I needed it most. You gave me a chance and showed me that life wasn’t completely hopeless.
Thank you, Mandy. You’ll always be my Princess Buttercup.
