Arlie L. Staggs went to heaven in the presence of Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 29, 2022 surrounded by his family at Willard Walker Hospice. Every person who knew him, described him as such a sweet, kind, and godly man. Arlie had the biggest heart for everyone but especially his entire extended family.
Arlie was born in Lockesburg, Arkansas on May 15, 1930. He served as Staff Sargent in the USAF Korean War. He attended LeTourneau University and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Arlie worked for 30 years with SWEPCO until retiring to be a contractor at Arkansas One Nuclear Plant in Russellville, Arkansas, Callaway Nuclear in Fulton, Missouri and Comanche Peak Nuclear in Glen Rose, Texas where he made many life-long friendships.
Arlie married the love of his life, Sybil Arlene Godwin Staggs, September 2, 1952. He is preceded in death by Sybil, his mother, Mildred Robbins Staggs, his father, Harold Staggs, and only brother, Lendel Staggs, all of Lockesburg, Arkansas.
Arlie and Sybil are survived by two daughters, Bev Staggs Worley (Kevin) and Lisa Staggs Gaddy of Fayetteville, Arkansas , 5 grandchildren, Michael Gaddy (Amy) of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Drew Gaddy of Durango, Colorado, Ashton Worley Wells (Andy) of Conway, Arkansas, Tyler Gaddy (Katherine) and Kolton Staggs Worley, five great-grandchildren, Lucy, Kaden, Anna, Ruby, and Sagely.
Arlie was deacon of University Baptist Church for 50+ years lovingly serving in the Widow ministry, Childrens’ ministry events and especially Vacation Bible School.
He was a member of Gideon’s Bible Society. Arlie served well into his 80’s delivering Meals on Wheels. Making life-long friends everywhere he resided, he was always the best neighbor and “adopted” grandfather to so many families, He and Sybil loved travelling the US and Canada with cousins. As an amateur photographer, he took thousands of wonderful photos over the years
Visitation will be held at University Baptist Church under the care of Beard’s Funeral Chapel on Thursday, November 3, 2022 beginning at 2:00 p.m. with a celebration of life following at 3:00 p.m.
Visitation will also be held in DeQueen, Arkansas at Chandler Funeral Home on Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with interment following at Oddfellows Cemetery, Lockesburg, Arkansas.
I enjoyed Arlie’s friendly greeting whenever we walked away from church, and appreciated that he was continuing to negotiate those steps at his age! He was the sweetest man, and I know his family will miss him greatly. My sympathy to all of you in your loss. Jacque Fifer, UBC
