Betty Poore Terry Palumbo, August 22, 1925~August 27, 2020

Aug 29, 2020

It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of Betty Poore Terry Palumbo at Circle of Life Hospice Home in Springdale, AR.  Betty was born in Fayetteville, AR on August 22, 1925 to Bertha Norwood Poore and William Poore.  She was number 5 of 8 children.  After graduation from Fayetteville High School, she went on to be a telephone operator and later in life an employee of Root Elementary School, where she served in the cafeteria and as an assistant on the playground.

Betty was a committed Christian and a lifelong active member of First Christian Church, Fayetteville.  She was baptized into Christian faith on November 15, 1953, by Minister Jim Spainhower.

People immediately were drawn to Betty for her kindness and gentle spirit. She was known for her cooking and baking skills. Friends asked to come to her kitchen where they received a lesson on making her famous peanut butter fudge, Italian cream cake, and homemade noodles. These are just a few examples of her many well-known recipes that she blessed people with over the years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two loving husbands, Clyde E. Terry and Luke C. Palumbo, siblings, Pauline, Billie, Lucille, Ellis, Doris, JoAnn Reilly, Jimmy and an infant grandson, Jonathan Nickle.

She is survived by daughters, Pamela Terry Nickle and husband, Charles, and Vicki Terry Felig and husband, Ken. She is also survived by granddaughters, Brooke Nickle White and husband, Hal and Lauren Nickle Willis and husband, Nathan.  Betty has 3 great granddaughters, Elle White, Alli White and Madeline Willis. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Phil Terry.

We will be forever thankful for the unconditional love and joy that mother has always blessed us with.  Having grown up in a home exhibiting these qualities fills our hearts with gratitude.

Mother/Mom/Gramma, know that you have found your place in the arms of God, and we will always carry your love and life lessons with us.

Due to COVID 19 virus, there will be no church service.  A private family graveside ceremony will be held at Fairview Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Beard’s Chapel.  A celebration of Betty’s life will take place on a future date.

Memorial donations may be sent to First Christian Church, Palumbo Education Scholarship Fund, 220 N. College Ave., Fayetteville, AR 72701.

Betty was a sweet lady. I’ve been thinking about her lately and wished I knew how to get in touch with her. She was a great friend to my grandmother, Katherine Lacy.

Dear Pam and Vicki and all your family,

It is indeed with sadness that I heard of the passing of Betty. Of course, I also feel great joy in celebrating a life faithfully lived. I have so many personal memories of Betty, Clyde, Luke and, of course, you two daughters. It seems only yesterday that Betty, Clyde, Al, Lucille, Louise and myself were out in Colorado on motorcycles. It also seems only yesterday that we all worked so hard at First Christian. For me, those were terrific years that hopefully served the church and our God. Now, during my retirement, I don’t have the opportunity to see you as much as I’d like, but, in a way, I guess that is what memories are for. I hope all of you are well in these difficult days of illness and unrest. My thoughts are with you as you send your mother on to her glory and I know that God’s comfort will remain with you.

    Always the best to you,

    Max Ryan
