Burl Lawrence Burton, 89, of Fayetteville, AR, left his earthy journey on Sunday, August 11, 2019 in Fayetteville.  Many only knew him as “Peaches”.  He was the second child born to Lynn Sr. and Winifred Ellenburg Burton on October 26, 1929 in Tichnor, Arkansas.

Burl retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving 20 years.  He was a 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge.

After returning home, he was in the furniture business and later sold to Sam’s Club as a Bassett furniture representative, where he met the love of his life, Virginia Witherspoon.

He played guitar and sang in bands while serving in the Air Force.  He had a passion for quail and turkey hunting and enjoyed many great friendships in Nocona and Quanah, Texas where he had a bird lease for years.

Burl is preceded in death by his parents, Lynn Burton, Sr. and Winifred Ellenburg Burton Kennedy; his first wife, Bettye Rutherford Burton; his son, Doug Burton; and brother, Lynn Burton, Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Harvey Burton of Fayetteville; a son, Rick Witherspoon and wife, Shari of Prairie Grove; daughter-in-law, Denise Burton of Morrilton; grandchildren, Leigh Ann (Tim) Gray, Gary (Christy) Witherspoon, Catherine (Jared) Dunn and D.J. (Chelsea) Burton; and great-grandchildren, Matthew, Emma, Garrett, Brynlee, Kennedy and Sophie.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Beard’s Chapel with Minister Vance Eubanks officiating.  Interment will follow at 2:00 PM at the Fayetteville National Cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until service-time on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock/Springdale or the Prairie Grove Christian Church, Prairie Grove, AR.
