Jul 24, 2026

Charles (Sonny) Leroy Moon of Pea Ridge, Arkansas was born February 4, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan. He passed on Tuesday evening, July 21st, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Beulah Moon; his brother Daniel; wife Virginia; and son Terry.

He is survived by children Randy, Martin, and Susan; grandchildren, Tiphani, Tyler, Jennifer, and Elliott; and a great-grandson Joseph.

Charlie was known by the nickname of all his family on the Moon side as Sonny. Growing up he loved basketball and baseball and eventually playing football. He played at Springdale Junior High and high school until his junior year. Him, and 6 of his classmates left before their senior year for the military so they could receive the GI Bill.

Charlie spent 4 years in the United States Marines stationed in both Japan and the Philippines as a radar operator eventually being promoted and becoming a crew chief. The highlight of his military career was meeting John Wayne while in the Philippines.

After the military Charlie went to junior college and played football and earned his associate degree. After junior college he returned to Springdale, AR. He eventually married and moved to Tulsa, OK and attended the Spartan School of Aeronautics, earning a technical degree in electronics.

Charlie then worked at a petroleum pipeline moving up and down the southeast coast. In 1970 he moved to Hermann, MO where he spent the next 48 years retiring from an anhydrous ammonia pipeline. Charlie and his wife then moved to Pea Ridge, AR in 2018.

Charlie enjoyed playing softball and other sporting activities for as long as he was able. When his grandkids started playing sports he traveled often to watch them play. He especially enjoyed wildlife and the outdoors.

For the people that knew him he loved to tell stories of all his adventures. Those stories will always be missed. He loved seeing friends and family, never knowing a stranger.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Beard’s Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, July 31, 2026 at Beard’s Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Rankin Cemetery in Mulberry, AR.
