
David Harwood, 66, of Wesley, passed away Monday, September 17, 2018 at his home. He was born November 26, 1951 in Fayetteville to Rowe and Vitis McCarver Harwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Harwood; and a sister, Jeanie Shinn and her husband, Gene.
David attended the University of Arkansas where he obtained his PhD in Molecular Genetics.
He spent 13 years as a research scientist at Campbell Soup. He enjoyed serveral years teaching chemistry at his alma mater, Huntsville High School. David returned to research and development and finished his career at Foster Farms in Turlock, California.
David, an avid Razorback fan, was able to move home to northwest Arkansas in 2011. He enjoyed reading, attending Razorback games and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Harwood of the home; a daughter, Leigh Evans and husband, Matt; stepsons, Jeremy McCurdy and Lincoln McCurdy; stepdaughter, Lindsey Pittman and husband, Matt; 4 grandchildren, Emma and Aiden Evans and Yunice and Tama Pittman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A casual memorial gathering will take place at 5:30 P.M. Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the home of Terry and Christy McConnell, 1515 Circle Dr, Springdale, AR 72764.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes or JDRF of NWA.

I am sorry to hear of David’s passing. Condolences to Beverly, Leigh and the rest of the family. I enjoyed teaching with David at Huntsville High School when he was there. I fondly remember summer vacations in Arkansas when we were able to visit Uncle Rowe, Aunt Vitis and David. Some of my happiest childhood memories were at their home in Huntsville.
Beverly, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. David was my supervisor at Campbell Soup Research and he was one of the best bosses ever. He will be missed.

David and I graduated from Huntsville High School in 1970. I remember him as an intelligent, funny and kind person. The family certainly has my heartfelt condolences.
