Elnora Jackson, a trailblazer, devoted mother, and cherished friend, passed away surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 86. Born on December 14, 1938, in Cane Hill, Arkansas, to Preston Lackey and Isabel Barker. Elnora’s life was a testament to resilience, faith, and love.
Elnora was among the first African Americans to integrate Fayetteville High School, paving the way for generations to follow. Her courage during such a pivotal time in history reflected the strength and determination that defined her life.
In her early years, Elnora pursued her passion as a hairstylist, bringing beauty and confidence to those around her. Later, she made history again as one of the first African American switch-board operators at Southwestern Bell, now AT&T, in Fayetteville, AR where she worked tirelessly for 26 years before retiring.
Elnora’s heart was anchored in faith. A devoted member of St. James Baptist Church, she found joy in singing in the choir and lifting her voice in praise. Her home was a sanctuary of love, where she cultivated her passions for gardening, sewing, reading, cooking, and creating precious memories with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Preston Lackey and Isabel Barker, and her beloved brothers, Preston Lackey Jr. and Billy Ray Lackey. Husband, Amos Jackson and son Michael Jackson.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith through her children: David and his wife (Tracy) Jackson of Fayetteville, daughter Anita Jackson of Fayetteville, one brother Thomas Wayne and his wife (Marvia) Lackey of Fayetteville, two sisters Roberta Morgan of Fayetteville and and Joanne and husband (Farrell) Goodley of Fayetteville, and seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
Elnora Jackson was a pillar of the community, a source of unwavering love for her family, and an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

As a kid I first meet Elnora as a young boy. As we went to get our hair cut by her husband Amos. The first thing one notice up on looking at her face was her beauty. She was a striking lady. But what out shined her beauty was her kindness. My thoughts will never be without Elnora, she was one of the leaders of Black families of Fayetteville Arkansas. Gone but never forgotten. I was blessed by knowing her.
