Fleeta Gosvener Frederick Harrison, May 6, 1916~December 25, 2018

Dec 26, 2018

Fleeta Gosvener Frederick Harrison, 102, of Fayetteville, was carried by Angels into her Heavenly home, Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at the Willard Walker Hospice Home.

Fleeta Marie was the 4th of 8 children, born May 6, 1916 to Andrew and Mary Lane Gosvener.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Dorsey Frederick of 49 ½ years and Mark Harrison of 8 years; 4 sisters, Jessie, Grace, Clara Mae and Susie; 2 brothers, Carlos and Paul; 1 granddaughter, Shelley Marie Robinson; and 2 great-grandchilden, David Porter and Maggie Higgins.

She was born and raised on the family farm in the Colbough Community just outside of Hindsville, AR.  She went to school as well as church in the Colbough Church Building.  At this church, as a young girl, she accepted the Lord and served Him all of her life in various areas including teaching, singing and later serving as a pastors wife.  The Colbough Church is still having church services every Sunday today.

After her and Dorsey Frederick married they moved to Fayetteville, AR.  Fleeta was a very accomplished seamstress and worked as a seamstress most of her married life.  Her and Dorsey had three daughters.  She loved her family so much as well as serving her Lord.  Later in life, Dorsey surrendered to the ministry.  So, as a ministers wife, she was involved in many different aspects of the church over the years.  Due to her loving spirit she was always ready to help a family member of anyone that might need help.  She was loved by family as well as people who knew her.  You didn’t have to be around her very long before she let you know that she knew the Lord and wanted you to know Him also.

Fleeta enjoyed working in the garden, reading and crocheting.  In her later years, she especially enjoyed crocheting potholders for family and friends.  She loved sharing stories of her life and entertained many guests in her home.

Left to cherish Fleeta’s memory are her three daughters, Jeanetta Blackman, Doris Ann Robinson (James) and Mary Jane Goodman; one sister, Mildred Herron of Rogers; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was able to enjoy living in her home in her latter years because grandson Jeff Bartlett was there to maintain the functions of the home.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Beard’s Chapel.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday, December 31, 2018 at Sang Avenue Baptist Church.

Interment will follow in Sons Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Beard’s Chapel.

You all are in my thoughts and prayers as I recall many fond memories of Fleeta in the Good Old Days. She was my baby-sitter many years ago when we both lived in Huntsville. I was so fond of her back then, I even named one of my dolls after her! I’m glad that we connected again a few years ago and were able to see each other a few times – still a wonderful lady.

We feel privileged to have known Fleeta. She blessed us in many ways over the years but we have special memories of the times when we took college students to her house to sing Christmas carols. She always had homemade cookies and hugs for everyone. She was truly a wonderful Christian lady who will be missed. Praying for you.

Fleeta and Dorsey were good friends of my parents, Arlin and Ruth Jones, in the early 1950s. I remember well the great times they had discussing family, current events, religion, etc., while they played board games and alternated in whose home they would meet. Fleeta was an especially gracious host to me (Merle), my sister (Arlene), and my brother (Tommy).

We three enjoyed playing with their daughters (Jeanetta, Doris Ann, and Mary Jane). Our parents and brothers (Glenn and Tommy) have died, but I’m confident I speak for our family in saying we were saddened to learn that Fleeta passed on. However, we’re in awe that she met her maker on Christmas Day after living to be 102. That sure proves the old saying “the good die young” certainly wasn’t true in her case!

If a member of the Frederick family would like to contact me, you may email joneshafer@sbcglobal.net. I’d offer my phone number, but due to a military-related hearing problem I’m unable to enjoy phone conversations.
