May 26, 2024

Gary “Bruce” Blevins, 92, of West Fork, passed away Friday, May 24, 2024, in Fayetteville. He was born January 1, 1932, in Dutton, AR, to Alvie Burney and Fairy B. Ricketts Blevins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

As a child, Bruce attended a one-room schoolhouse in Pleasant Valley near Young, Arizona. His father operated a saw mill, and the family grew up around the logging industry. Before Bruce moved back to Arkansas, he worked in logging in Arizona and Colorado.

Bruce bought land in Elkins, AR, and eventually had a large poultry farm. He raised his family on the farm, and enjoyed breeding hunting dogs and mules. He loved hunting, bird-watching, and listening to old-time fiddle music. He could play the fiddle, the mandolin, the guitar, and the harmonica.

His legacy of strength and stability is treasured by his family.

He is survived by his wife Dr. Janice Beyer Blevins of the home; sons, Jon David “J.D.” Blevins of Fayetteville, Nathan Blevins and wife Amanda of Fayetteville, and Phillip Blevins and wife Audrey of Springdale; daughters, Amy Blevins of Fayetteville and Sarah Gill and husband J.T. of Italy; and 13 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 8, 2024 at White River Fellowship in Elkins.

What a beautiful & faithful God to have a man like this on planet earty. Although, I never met Bruce, we now know his daughter & son n-law living in Italy & they are leaving an eternal legacy of Bruce’s faith. My family & I relocated to Italy on a Work Assignment…Bruce’s family has been a tremendous encouragement to us & my daughter. We Thank God for the life he led that then flowed to generations below. PRAYING for you all during this temporary separation.

Nathan, We are so sorry to hear this news. May God Bless you and your wonderful family with comfort, knowing that he is in a beautiful, peaceful place reuniting with family members he hasn’t seen for a while. We know that life continues after death and your dad will be watching over you. The most comforting message I received when our son passed away was “You will see him again.”
