Cook for PaperGeneva Maxine Shadrick Ficht Cook, age 77, of Fayetteville, AR went to meet the Lord at 4:30 p.m. on May 27, 2015, in her home after a seven- year battle with lung cancer. She was born April 24, 1938, in the Backbone Community near Kingston, AR. to Robert and Mary Shadrick.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Helen Ficht of Kingston and Hazel Burk of Huntsville.

She was a store manager for the Mini- Mart stores for many years before she started taking care of the many grand and great- grandchildren.  She enjoyed working in her yard and garden, feeding birds and watching critters.  She never turned down a conversation or debate concerning the Bible in which she studied daily.

She is survived by her spouse, Rusty Cook of the home; children, Marsha Shaver and husband, Gary of Kingston; Melva Howard and husband, Terry of Fayetteville; Gregg Cook and wife, Katheryn of Lincoln; and Shane Cook and wife, Kym of Prairie Grove;  grandchildren, Layce Uhl and husband, Michael Law, Sr.; Cristen Hamilton and husband, James; Garran Shaver; Marla Shaver; Alex Cook; Greggory (Joseph) Cook; Annabeth, Wade, Raelynn and Silas Cook; and the grandchildren of her heart, Jessica Goodwin and Rachel Rodriguez; great-grandchildren, Michael, Jr., Nicholas and Derek Law; Hailey Stout; Layten Vice; and Kane Johnson; and people dear to her heart, Katherine Collins; David Uhl, Jr.; Jean Corn; Scott and Wilma Wilson; and Homer and Joetta Copeland.

The family of Geneva Cook wants to say a special “Thank You” to Alice Walker who took care of Mom during the day for the past six weeks.  We could not have made it through this trying time without this person who adored our Mother and took excellent care of her.  We love you Alice Walker.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, June 1, 2015 at Beard’s Funeral Chapel with Reverend Lester Shadrick officiating.  Interment will follow in Baptist Ford Cemetery under the direction of Beard’s Chapel.

There is no scheduled visitation.

I think some of her best times were at Kingston school. She left Kingston in her twenties but it was always her home. Sometimes I thought I knew the kids she went to school with as well as she did because she talked about them so much. GO JACKETS!!
