Gerald “Jerry” Wilson Gilbert, 82, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 2, 1944, in Enon, Arkansas, Jerry was a man of service, strength, and great imagination.

A proud veteran, Jerry served three years in the United States Army, dedicating his early adulthood to his country. Following his service, he built a long and distinguished career as a USDA Inspector, where his integrity and attention to detail were known and respected by all who worked with him. He retired with a sense of duty fulfilled.

Jerry was a devoted family man who found his greatest joy in the company of his wife, Sandra, to whom he was married for 56 wonderful years. An avid outdoorsman, he spent much of his life hunting, fishing, and camping. Family camping trips were a cherished tradition, where Jerry would set up the tent, cook over the fire, and teach his children, Riley and Leisa, and his grandchildren Kaleb, Zayne, and Alexis the skills of the wild. He was a die-hard Arkansas Razorbacks fan, never missing a game and cheering so loudly it felt like he was right there on the field with the team.

In his quieter moments, Jerry was a voracious reader with a deep love for science fiction and fantasy novels. He loved sharing these stories with his family, but his favorite tradition was watching Star Wars with Kaleb, Zayne, and Alexis. There were many times the children fell asleep in his lap as the movies played, and many light-hearted lightsaber battles ensued afterward, with Jerry always making sure his “Padawans” won.

After retiring, Jerry found a new way to contribute to the household. While Sandra continued to work, he took on the role of the primary cook, ensuring that meals were ready and the home ran smoothly so she could focus on her career. It was a quiet but profound way he showed his love and partnership.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Gilbert; his son, Riley Gilbert; his daughter, Leisa Gilbert; and his three grandchildren, Kaleb, Zayne, and Alexis Gilbert, who were the light of his life.

A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Beard’s Chapel in Fayetteville, Arkansas with military honors.
