Gisela Margaret (Land) Neumann, March 22, 1935~January 12, 2021

Jan 18, 2021

Gisela Margaret (Land) Neumann, born on March 22, 1935 in Berlin, Germany, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 12:12 a.m.

She is survived by her only child, Kimberly A. Land and her husband, Jacob W. Alvarez of West Fork, AR.  She has two stepchildren, Newton E. Land, III, his wife, Juanita Land of Mississippi and Anita Johnson and her husband, Bob Johnson of Johnson, AR; 4 grandchildren, Brittany Maier-Hunter, her husband, Chris J. Hunter of Bentonville, AR, Wendy M. Pear of Rogers, AR, Corey C. Land and Casey M. Alvarez of West Fork, AR; step-grandchildren, Bronwyn Land Planchard and Brigette Lehman both originally of Mississippi; great-grandchildren are from oldest to youngest, Emmalise Ann Hunter, Knox W. Hunter, Cooper J. Land and Alivia J. Hunter.

Gisela came to the United States of America at age 23 and became a U.S. citizen which was her dream after experiencing war as a child in Berlin.  She had her only child in 1966, at WRMC in Faytteville, AR.  Gisela had some beautiful talents.  After suffering a stroke in 1999, she suddenly became an artist and painted portraits and landscapes and anything that captured her attention.  She learned to sew clothes incredibly young, she also knitted and crocheted.  Her last employment was working for Dr. Fincher and Dr. Hudson of the ENT Allergy Clinic in Fayetteville for over 20 years.  Prior to this, she worked diligently at Bear Brand Hosiery for some time.  When she came from Berlin at 23, her first and privileged job was working for the Askew’s, a married couple, as their chef, who started the first shopping center in Fayetteville, called Evelyn Hills.

All in all, Gisela (my mama), had a wonderful life amidst any challenges, she apparently overcame to live to nearly 86!  She was a wonderful wife two times.  She lived with her daughter and her family for the last year and a half, as her wishes and desires were fulfilled.  Her daughter, Kimberly, was by her side the moments her last breaths were taken.

For all who knew Gisela…..loved her.  Her family cherishes beyond words, especially the last year and half, with her and hold on to it forever!!

Anyone wanting to attend the memorial of Gisela’s life, there will be a video/slideshow in remembrance of her.  It will be held at Beard’s Funeral Chapel, 855 S. Happy Hollow Rd, Fayetteville, AR 72701, Friday, January 22, 2021 from 5-7 PM.

Gisela and I were freinds since the 1970’s. We shared rides to work for several years and enjoyed many good conversations.

I look forward to seeing her again. When she went to Berlin to see her family she always brought me a gift. She was a

    very thoughtful and lovely person.

Thank you Diana, and Doug . She had a way about her. Those that took the time to know her, really touched her and you are definitely one of them. Thank you for your kindness and extended efforts to help say goodbye to her even before she left. I loved the cat portraits she did of your kitties. Being a cat lover myself, I enjoyed watching her paint them. I can tell you , she took the time to get them as she saw fit. And sooooo many! I thought she was going to do one of each, but it needed up being much more than that! I was so impressed. And I love her style . As many different things she painted, she had a style for every one. Thanks so much for the care and attention you and your husband gave my mom. Some I don’t even know about! I’m very grateful for you. May God Bless the kind people you are.

We knew Gisela from Living Savior Lutheran Church.
I enjoyed talking to her about Germany in WWII and during the Berlin air lift.

She loaned several of her paintings to the church which we greatly enjoyed.

Gisela was a very nice person and we were privileged to know her.

I was not able to know Nana for very long however in the short time I did get to know her I was overcome by her strength and beautiful soul. She was a talented woman who even though she had been through so much she still found beauty and creative energy in her life which I found so inspiring. To know her and be around her was to witness strength and poise. She was generous and full of love for her family. I feel so blessed to have gotten a chance to know her as I did and to have her as a great grandmother for my children. I will forever remember her and the true beauty she possessed. We love and miss you Nana. Rest Easy.

If she thought you needed some stern advise , she would definitely tell you. She wanted those she loved to succeed for sure. And sometimes it came out exactly how it sounded if that makes sense. !

A persons life can be summed up. And a persons life can be written about in a book, a novel or a documentary , but a real persons life can only be expressed properly through the eyes who lived with them and who loved them entirely. There are way too many in between lines among a persons life to suggest that anyone really knew anything. But appreciate the things you did know , for that may be something. If then , you may come to realize that was just the tip of the iceberg. Thank you to those who reached out to my mom in any way. We often want to know those who we have touched in life. My mom touched many people. Thank you everyone who wished her the best and who treated her that way. Kimberly
