Horst Fritz Waymann, June 23, 1932~September 7, 2019

Sep 10, 2019

Horst Fritz Waymann, age 87, of Springdale, AR, went home to be with the Lord on September 7, 2019. He was born on June 23, 1932 in Brackwede, West Germany to the late Erich and Luise (Kramme) Waymann.

He immigrated in 1952 at the age of 19, joined the United States Army and was granted his U.S citizenship while stationed in Taegu, South Korea. He met his wife of nearly 57 years at Ohio University and pledged to her, “Stick with me kid and you’ll go places.” Indeed they did! They moved more than 20 places together, including to Germany for a year, through a career with IBM as a computer systems engineer.

Horst was a devoted and faithful husband, loving Papa to his girls, proud Opa to his grandchildren and a generous friend. He possessed supreme organization skills, exemplifying the German tradition, “Ordnung muss sein” (order must be). Those who met him quickly discovered that he had a wonderful sense of humor. His patience and encouraging ways as a teacher and mentor were a blessing to his family, co-workers and friends. A man of his word, he wrote to his parents in Germany on a weekly basis for 37 years, keeping a promise he made to his uncle when he immigrated.

He was a parent who expected respect and reasonable behavior from his children, yet he would occasionally enter into their bouts of laughter at dinner, reminiscing about similar giggle sessions he’d had with cousins as a child. Some things he treasured most were time spent together as a family, a quiet walk in the woods, a cold beer after mowing the lawn on a hot day, a platter of homemade potato pancakes and grilled bratwursts, and the satisfaction of a job well done.

Horst is survived by his wife, Clela, of Springdale, AR, two daughters Heidi (Doug) Troyer of Manistique, MI; Katie (Stephen) Teague of Fayetteville, AR; four grandchildren Eric, Katie, Matthew and Anna; brother Klaus (Roswitha) Waymann of Hövelhof, Germany, brothers-in-law Tom Tesauro (Mauria) of Lansdale, PA and Joe Tesauro (Dianna) of Solon, OH and sister-in-law Sherry Tesauro of Cape Canaveral, FL, nieces Heather and Jessica and nephew Marko and their families. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Bill Tesauro and nephew, Michael Tesauro.

The family is so grateful to the exceptional team of caregivers and friends who devoted themselves to Horst like he was their own family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to NAPS, LLC at 5000 Arkanshire Cir., Springdale, AR 72764 or Washington Regional Hospice.

A private memorial service will be held for family.

Uncle Horst was such an incredible man and he radiated joy to those around him. I will always cherish the wonderful memories or his German accent, his laughter, his stories, and of course, his potato pancakes! Horst always brought a smile to Robin’s and my face. Always friendly and wise cracking. He will be dearly missed. Clela and he were missed when they were unable to continue going to church because of thier unique insites they would share. If there is anything that we can do for Clela, please don’t hesitate to ask.

    God Bless

Clela, I found out about your loss of Horst from the OU magazine. There are a lot of men who have passed through my life, but only one Horst. I still have and wear the Lederhozzen shorts [sp] his mother made for me. I also have memories of the night of December 3 1959 when my brother was ed in an auto accident, and loaned me the brand new Ford he had just won in a lottery. What a most wonderful man and human being for us all. I also have great delight in knowing that I introduced the two of you.
