May 18, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Jack Rueben Cleghorn announces his passing on May 16th 2018 after a courageous battle against cancer. Born in Culman, Alabama to James and Estelle Cleghorn.

Jack served in the Navy aboard the USS Roosevelt and in Vietnam. In 1977, Jack moved to Arkansas where he worked in radio, TV, cable, and with Nelms Auto. Jack married Bokie Alpe in 1979 where he settled down and they forged lifelong friendships in Fayetteville. Jack started his own Cable buying business in 1993 and only closed in March 2018 due to his illness. He loved his work and was a hardworking, honest, and dedicated man of the highest integrity. Jack also served on the Fayetteville City Planning Commission and was a founding member of the Northwest Arkansas Ad Federation.

Jack is lovingly remembered by his wife, Bokie, of 39 years and his adoring family.  He is survived by his children: Jack Alpe Cleghorn (Grace); Kimberly, Connor, and Haven Glenn; Chip Wallace (Becky); Dana Blake (Jason); grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will also be forever remembered by his siblings, James Cleghorn (Carol), Joan Gay (Doy), and their children.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Jack on Monday, May 21st 10:00am, with a Rosary at 9:30am, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1722 North Starr Dr, Fayetteville. Fr. Jason Tyler presiding. The Rosary will be said at 9:30am.

Big Jack, as he was known by many, enjoyed bright colors. Please help us in celebrating his life by wearing colorful attire.

    Our thoughts are with the
Cleghorn family today. We remember the many years of support that Jack and Bokie gave to St. Joseph School when little Jack was a student there.

I moved to Fayetteville single again with three children. Jack helped me buy a car and coached me how to drive on ice – my guardian angel when I sure needed one. Love you Jack

I can still hear his voice on the old “DON NELMS CHEVY” radio commercials – he was part of my life – he was BIGGER than life – he was a really nice guy. I am glad I knew him. I will miss his SMILE & LUST FOR LIFE. RIP Jack – you were a good man. I will have a JD in your honor

Bokie and “little” Jack, I was so deeply saddened to hear about Big Jack this morning. John sent we a text this morning and it broke my heart. Jack was truly a “Class Act”! I know your heart is broken and I am so very sorry.
