James “Jim” Ainsworth, 81, of Fayetteville passed away Monday, July 27, 2026 in Fayetteville. He was born June 5, 1945 in Tomnolen, Mississippi to James Ruben and Mary Sue Ainsworth.

In 1965, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served for three years during the Vietnam War. After completing his military service, Jim attended Mississippi State University, where he earned a master’s degree in Educational Psychology. Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to helping individuals facing mental health challenges, behavioral difficulties, and anger-management concerns. He worked tirelessly to connect people with the resources they needed and support them in building healthier lives.

Jim was also a longtime supporter, advocate, and volunteer for CASA, where he was honored by the Arkansas State Court Appointed Special Advocate Association as an Outstanding Voice for CASA. His commitment to advocacy continued even during his time living at the Fayetteville Veterans Home (for the past two years). There, he remained a steady source of support and encouragement for others.

Jim leaves behind his wife, Jan; his daughter Jenny and stepson Matt; their families; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia and Becky of Wisconsin; a niece Mary in Tennessee; and a wide circle of friends whose lives were deeply touched by his kindness, service, and dedication.

A memorial graveside service with military honors will be held at 9:30 AM Friday, August 21, 2026 at the Fayetteville National Cemetery.
