Janell was a treasured member of the W. P. Carey School of Business family at ASU. First as staff, then student, then alumna. We are collectively grieving her loss and a life ended far too soon. Our deepest sympathy for all her family and friends. We’re at a loss of what we can do to help, so please let us know if there’s a college fund or any way we can help her boys Brighton and Owen.

I have no words to express the shock and emotions I’m feeling right now. Janell would always pop in mind at the holidays when we would be together at Grandmas, and how I wished she was here. She will truly be missed, but never forgotten. Thoughts and prayers to Peggy and Greg, family and friends.

I’m so sorry to learn of this. Janell was in my student in anatomy and physiology class. She was quiet and had an excellent work ethic. I thought she was pretty then, but her picture is just beautiful. I remember this class quite well since my daughter was also in that class. My heartfelt prayers go out to her sons and all the family.

Janell and I were both international advocates at ASU, forging ahead in new roles we each were creating. We had monthly lunches, during which we talked about our travels, our dreams, our similarly-aged children. Janell was my friend, a bright light, a champion, a bon vivant. I am devastated. May she rest in peace and may her sons know how deeply she loved them.

I met Janell when I was applying for jobs at ASU. I was struck by the fact that although she barely knew me, a stranger, she took the time to have coffee, review my resume, and share it with some contacts in international ed. When I was hired at W. P. Carey and shared the news with her, she was truly delighted and celebrated with me. She was a delightful, encouraging person who will be dearly missed. My prayers to her family, especially the precious boys.

From her beautiful outfits to how well spoken and professional she was. I always looked up to her for it. Her family will be in my thoughts as I knew she had two young boys.

Janell and I shared an office for a year as recruiters at ASU. She lit up every room she entered, was quick to laugh and smile and got a lot of joy from her work and her colleagues.

She was always striving for the next big thing, whether it was traveling, new jobs, a new degree, or even in love and starting a family.

She was a devoted mother and her boys were the true loves of her life.

We hadn’t spoken lately but every time we got together it was if no time had passed and she was always excited about what she was doing and her family’s adventures.

I will miss her smile and easy laugh, her sense of style and her endless optimism. She was a cheerleader for anyone following their passion and lived her life following her dreams.

My deepest condolences to her family and her boys.

I knew Janell through Tempe Leadership and has the pleasure of watching her transform from a pregnant girl wondering about her next steps to a true leader with two sons she adored and an energy like you’ve never seen. I know our class will always remember her for her transition and her tenacity – completing the class and jumping into a new life with both feet! I am sure Tempe Leadership alumni would want help continue her legacy for Brighton and Owen.

It’s indeed so shock and sad to hear Janell is no longer with us, a brilliant life taken away too sudden and too early. I have known Janelle for three years as a colleague. When she was the associate director of ASU career center, she initiated a series of focus groups among Chinese international students, in hoping to assist them to find jobs in the US or back in China after getting their asu degrees. her passion and hard work shined though the students’ lives she touched and helped. we last contacted each other ~2 years ago after she left asu.

i’ll forever remember her bright smile and beautiful mind, and sending my condolence to her family who suffer such a painful loss…

My condolences to Janell’s family, especially her boys. I had the pleasure of working closely with Janell at Cognizant really since she started working here. She was a friend, not just a colleague. Every interaction – virtual or in person – left a mark. Janell had such a bright light, and has touched so many people for the better. Her joy and warmth were infectious. I specifically remember talking to her (on video) during the road trip and telling her that she was glowing and looked happier than I had ever seen her (and that’s saying a lot because she always seemed happy!). Janell always made time to ask how I was doing, and had such a positive outlook. I will miss her very much. I know none of you know me personally, but if there is ever anything I can do please do not hesitate to reach out. I love children (have 5 of my own), homeschool and spent many happy moments chatting about both with Janell. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I am so thankful that Janell was in my life. She was my employee and my friend. She would often reach out to me unexpectedly to share something she had learned, to thank me for something, or to ask for a recommendation for her next adventure. Writing letters of recommendation for Janell was always easy because she was truly one of a kind and I could honestly tell people that they would never regret their decision to add Janell to their team.

I can only imagine Janell delightfully styling her new angel wings and having wonderful conversations with the other angels that were taken from this life way too soon.

I am so sorry to hear about Janell’s passing. I worked at ASU and when I first met Janell at the Career Services office, she was so welcoming to me. She was so fun to work with and always put a smile on my face with her positive attitude. When we planned an “etiquette lunch” for the international students career workshop, she had so much fun with it and the students really enjoyed it. Later when I would see her on campus, she would always ask how I was doing. She cared about people in a genuine way, and it really showed. I hope to carry on her positive attitude and her love of working with students in my own work. I hope her family can know how much she was loved and appreciated by all who knew her.
