Jerry “Poppy” Wayne Barnett, November 13, 1947~June 4, 2022

Jun 6, 2022

Jerry “Poppy” Wayne Barnett, 74, of Elkins, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022 in Tulsa, OK. He was born November 13, 1947 in Aransas Pass, TX to Pershing and Towanda Norvell Barnett.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pershing and Towanda Barnett and a brother, Charles Ray Barnett.

Poppy retired from Cornerstone Construction in 2009 in Beeville, TX. After this with the love of his life for 54 years, Rosie “Gammaw” Barnett, they moved to Elkins, AR. Together Poppy and Gammaw bought a beautiful farm which he aptly named Boggy Bottoms. Poppy loved cattle farming and raising sheep. He loved old tractors and family workdays. There was nothing he couldn’t do or accomplish from the front seat of his truck with a good cup of coffee. It’s those moments that will be missed.

Poppy loved his community. He served on the City of Elkins Planning Commission for many years. Over his years in Elkins he could be found in many of the local businesses talking to anyone and everyone over, again, a good cup of coffee.

The most important thing to him though, was his walk with God. Poppy never waivered on his journey, even at the end. He continued to worship and speak of the goodness of God and the overwhelming love of Jesus until his last moments.

He was a lifetime member of the Pentecostal Church of God, and full-time member of Living Faith Church in Fayetteville, AR.

Poppy loved his family. He was blessed to have all his children and grandchildren living nearby who all attended Church with him regularly. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports. Poppy and Gammaw were known to be in attendance at all games regardless of time, location, or weather.

He had an unconditional love for his family that extended to the in-laws as well. No matter how you found yourself in the family you knew Poppy’s love included you.

Poppy is survived by his wife, Rosie Froud Barnett of the home; son, Mark Barnett and his wife Lisa of Elkins, daughter, LaDonna Warren and husband Donnie of Elkins, daughter, Marla Richert and husband Duane of Elkins, and son, Jeff Barnett and wife, Missy of Elkins; a sister, Cherlene Artman and husband Rick of Bois D’Arc, MO; 15 grandchildren, Chace Warren, Brittany Vaught, Brandon Richert, Brennan Warren, Wriston Ricketts, Paigely Jones, Ethan Barnett, Brooklynn Warren, Allyson Richert, Ashlyn Richert, Paxton Barnett, Jessica Richert, Caden Richert, Angela Richert, and Ronald Richert; 6 great-grandchildren, Ellody Ricketts, Anna Beth Ricketts, Coen Ricketts, Salem Ricketts, Acen Jones, Mary Kate Warren, and 2 “in the oven” (on the way);  a niece, Stephanie Whorton; and a nephew, Bryan Appleton.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Beard’s Chapel.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Living Faith Church in Fayetteville with Pastor Steve Curtis officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery in Springdale under the direction of Beard’s Chapel

We will all miss our Poppy here on earth, but we know we will see him again in our Heavenly mansion.
