Joseph Matthew Swall III (Joe), of Winslow, Arkansas, passed away February 4, 2021 at age 62.
Joe was born in Bellevue, Pennsylvania on June 1, 1958 to Joseph M. Swall Jr and Mary E. Donop. He graduated from George C. Marshall High School in Falls Church, Virginia, 1976. He wed Katherine A. Gillispie, (Marshall HS c/o 1974) on September 9, 1978 and built 37 years of fun and adventurous memories together. For them, it was more about the journey than the destination. In 1980 they welcomed a daughter, Marybeth. Marybeth and her dad were best buddies and “Who’s Your Best Buddy” was their self-made, favorite song to sing.
Joe was a truly fascinating man. He was an inventor, a builder and avid lover of space, science & firepower. He loved his family and close friends more than anything in this world – especially his two grandsons – Joseph and Tommy. They lit up his world with the stars in their eyes. His genuinely happy, playful, creative and helpful personality was like a good ‘ol Cabernet Sauvignon – even better with age. At 62, he was close to perfect.
The “Force” will be always be with him.
He is survived by his mom, Mary Swall, stepmom Nancy Swall, daughter Marybeth Holden, son-in-law Jamie Holden, grandsons Joseph and Thomas, uncle Tommy, sister Beth Stephens, brother Danny Swall, nieces and nephew: Rebeckah, Josh, Danielle, Ashton & Mary as well as his girlfriend Tammy and daughters, Juliana, Victoria and Zoe. He was predeceased by his wife, Katherine A. Swall and dad, Joseph M. Swall Jr.
The memorial service will be held Monday, February 22, 2021 at Beard’s Funeral Chapel at 855 S. Happy Hollow Rd. Fayetteville, AR 72701. Rosary prayers will start at 9:30 am. The memorial service will start at 10 am.
Memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the American Heart Association.

Cheers to the best dad and Pap Pap! The Force is strong with you.

My condolences to all the many loved ones of Joe Swall. I only knew him a short time but it was to determine he was an amazing person. He never failed to light up the room and give encouragement to all.
Our thought and prayers go out to Joe, his family and close friends. We only met Joe and Kathy briefly, but we’ve known of them for years and knew them to be very special, fun people. We’ll take solace in the knowledge that Joe and Kathy are reunited and plotting their next adventure together again.

I am saddened by your & your family’s profound loss. You are so blessed to have the comfort of your faith to help you through these very hard days.
Hey Tink, geese, I never know what to say at times of sorrow and loss like this. No words can ease the hurt or lessen the pain such a devastating loss. Just know that you are in my prayers and thoughts. Keep the faith and trust in the Lord so that we can all reunite in heaven with our lost loved ones. I know Joe is back in the arms of his true love ❤️. Time doesn’t really heal the wound, but does get easier as you move on with your life. Welcome to orphanhood. Love you and miss you.🙏🙏❤️❤️
My thoughts and prayers go out to all. Joe was an inspiration to me! He taught me that no matter how big a dream might be, always chase it. Joe had hired me to help with some photography/videography for his business he had. I was only 16 and barely had any idea what I was doing at the time. However, he made me so confident in my work and helped me to become who I am now. When I hear the shutter click of a camera I will always think of Joe. If it wasn’t for him I would be who I am today. We all love and miss you Joe❤️
I was a friend of Joe’s during our freshman year at GCMHS. We moved to Colorado in 1975 but I have thought about him many times over the years and I wish I could have found him before he passed. It’s great to read that he has a wonderful family and had a great life.
