Layman Locial Drake, September 30, 1924~December 8, 2021

Layman Locial Drake, 97, of Fayetteville, went to be with the Lord on December 8, 2021.  Mr. Drake was born on September 30, 1924 to Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Drake of Wesley, AR.

Mr. Drake was a WWII veteran and was a milk man in California when they still delivered milk in glass bottles.  Mr. Drake was of the baptist faith and attended Buckner Baptist Church in Fayetteville.

Mr. Drake was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Wilma Cline Drake; his parents Mr. Elmer Drake and Mrs. Essie Sharp Drake; two sisters Leta Drake Parker and Luna Drake Watson; and one stepdaughter Leslee Faye Ballard.

Mr. Drake is survived by his wife of 20 years, Linda Faye “Jean” Drake of the home; one daughter Virginia Hobbs and husband Lee of Yorba Linda, CA; one grandson Tobin Hobbs and wife Michelle of Yorba Linda, CA; two great-grandkids Abigail Hobbs and Franklin Hobbs; one stepdaughter Lisa Southall and husband Eddie of Greenbrier, AR; one stepson Larry Anthony Ballard of Heth, AR; several step-grandkids and great-grandkids; and many family and friends.

Visitation will be from 2-4 PM Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Beard’s Chapel.

Funeral services for Mr. Drake will be 10:00 AM Monday, December 13, 2021 at Buckner Baptist Church, 2780 Wyman Rd in Fayetteville with Mr. Drake’s nephew Lindell Watson and Dr. Larry Mitchell.  Interment will follow in Sons Chapel Cemetery in Fayetteville under the direction of Beard’s Chapel.

    Layman was our milkman growing up in Fullerton. He would leave Chocolate milk sometimes when Mom wouldn’t have it on her list. My Great Grandmother was a Drake before marrying. Mom and Layman was related somehow. RIP LAYMAN. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

    I am only now finding out about Mr. Drake’s death, but I dearly wish I could have seen him one more time. He was a customer at a bank where I worked, and he was unfailingly kind to all of us. He was generous and a hard worker too. I’m sure heaven celebrated his arrival with great joy.
