Loy Edwin Caughman, 94, of Fayetteville, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021 in Fayetteville. He was born August 24, 1926, in Fayetteville, AR to Sherman and Muriel Lyons Caughman. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Edith Plant and Peggy Carrick, and his grandson Wade Caughman.
He will be missed by his wife of almost 75 years, Wilma, or as he called her “Sweet Thing,” and his family including children Linda Parnell (Larry) of Fayetteville, Sandy Bailey (Kenneth) of Kingston, David Caughman (Mabelee) of West Fork, Kathy Cox (Steve) of Dumas, TX, and Doug Caughman (Carrie) of Farmington; 12 grandchildren: Clay Bailey (Sara), Lance Parnell (Suzy), Sara Beth Bailey, Malisa Howerton (TJ), Nathan Caughman (Amanda), Lindsay Ramsey (Hal), Will Bailey, Dessa Caughman, Kyle Cox (Kimberlea), Dallas Cox, Ti Caughman (Kourtney), and Tate Caughman; 18 Great Grandchildren: Courtney, Kennedy, Landry, Drew, Brooks, Barrett, Ethan, Eli, Easton, Savannah, Natalie, Cade, Jacob, Milani, Bella, Jasmine, Sophia, and Joe.
Over his 94 years Loy invested his time in his family, working with his hands, his church, the outdoors, and youth sports. He was proud of his large family and all their accomplishments always telling them he was praying for them and letting them know how the weather might affect them wherever they were. He served in the US Army during WW II. He was a carpenter and worked for over 20 years at the University of Arkansas Physical Plant and on various projects around Fayetteville. He coached youth baseball for many years including teams with his sons and their many friends. He served as a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors including hunting and fishing and passed that love on to his family.
The Caughman family would like to thank Sarah Longstreth and the staff at Katherine’s Place for their love and care for Loy and Wilma during the last five years and especially over the last year.
There will be a private family service on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Beard’s Funeral Chapel followed by a burial at 11:15 at Baptist Ford Cemetery for those who wish to attend.
In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe account has been set up to benefit the staff at Katherine’s Place. The fund is titled: Caughman Katherine’s Place Staff Fund.

Love my aunt and uncle and sorry for this loss. Loy was a familiar face to me at the business college, back in the day, and would encourage me when he would see me in the halls. He always had a story. I really only knew them as Cotton and Jean when I was young and knew Cotton loved hunting and listening to baseball on the radio. What a beautiful example they were in their love and devotion to each other. Prayers for aunt Wilma and love to all my family.
Enjoyed attending church with Bro. Loy and his family. He was a good man and loved his family. Our sympathy to them.

I once read that being a “good man” is something you do, not something you are. Loy was a good man. He loved God, loved his family, loved his friends. When someone was in need, Loy was the first to extend a helping hand. The Bible says that you know God’s children by their love and by the fruit they produce. Loy’s life overflowed with the fruit of the Spirit. AMEN!
Susie, Thank you for your comforting words. Linda and family

When we moved to Arkansas from California the first people I met as a very young child was Loy and Wilma Caughman. Uncle Loy and Aunt Wilma along with their kiddos were the most significant influence in my life to lead me into a relationship with Christ. Uncle Loy would tell me stories of when I would cry when I couldn’t take communion at Calvary Baptist … as the years past and I surrendered my life to Christ communion was a sweet experience. Knowing now that uncle Loy is celebrating his Savior brings me such joy, because I know there will be an incredible family reunion someday!
Praying the Lord will comfort you as only he can. You are blessed with wonderful memories.
