Mary Charlotte Houston Hardin, 84, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 23, 2026.

Mary was born on April 27, 1942, in Palestine, Arkansas. She built a life centered around family, hard work, and the simple things that brought her happiness.

Mary married James Shelby Hardin in January 1962, and together they shared a life and built a family until his passing in 1999. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

A dedicated and hardworking woman, Mary spent 30 years with Levi Strauss before retiring. Her career reflected the loyalty, dependability, and commitment that were so much a part of who she was.

In her free time, Mary loved quilting. Through countless stitches and carefully chosen pieces of fabric, she created beautiful things that could be treasured and passed down—a fitting reflection of a life filled with love, patience, and devotion to family.

Mary is survived by her only daughter, Judy Mahan of Fayetteville, Arkansas; her grandson, Mitchell Mahan, and his wife, Caitlin Mahan, of Plano, Texas; her beloved great-grand dog, Teddy Mahan; and grand-cat, Benz Mahan. She is also survived by her sister, Judy Houston of Grove, Oklahoma, and brother, Herschal Houston of Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Mary’s 84 years were marked by devotion to her family, a strong work ethic, and the quiet joy she found in the things she loved. The quilts she made, the memories she created, and the love she gave will remain treasured reminders of a life well lived.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and all whose lives she touched.

A memorial to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at a later date.
