Aug 18, 2020

Patricia May Turner Green, 85, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 17, 2020.  She was born April 12, 1935, in Little Rock, AR to C.F. and Agnes McGrew Turner.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bill Turner and his wife Deloris Turner; a sister, Betty Matthews and her husband Wayne Matthews; a half-brother, Tommy Turner; and a nephew, Terry Turner.

She is survived by her husband, of 62 years, Albert Green; her three children, Kelle Wilkins, Karan Tomlinson, and Walter (Alli) Green all of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren, Brooke (Anthony) Breathitt, Michelle Wilkins, Devin Tomlinson, Turner (Lauren) Tomlinson, Bethany, Remington and Grace Green; eight great grandchildren; two nephews, Bill (Pat) Matthews of Alexandria, LA, Patrick Turner of Houston, Texas; and one niece, Patricia Matthews of Little Rock, AR.

She was married in 1958 to Albert Green. They lived in Little Rock, AR and moved to Fayetteville in 1964.

Patricia was a member of University Baptist Church (UBC) since 1964 where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for children, helped in the kitchen for Wednesday night meals, and later was involved in Second Mile Ministry.

Patricia graduated co-Valedictorian from Newport High School in 1953. She attended the University of Arkansas majoring in business graduating with honors in three and a half years. She was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority and the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society.

Patricia had a brilliant mind—especially for business.  Soon after graduation she worked for IBM setting up computer systems to meet the needs of customers.  She was a self-taught programmer.  Later, she was an independent programmer for several local businesses including McIlory Bank, House of Webster, and Campbell Soup.  She taught punch card programming for Fayetteville Business College.  She started teaching at Fayetteville High School after facilitating the donation of an old computer system to Fayetteville West Campus from Campbell Soup Company.  The principal at the time said they would take the computer if she would teach a programming class.  Also, she taught Adult Education programming classes.  After retiring from the Fayetteville School District in 1997 she enjoyed spending time with family, reading, and volunteering with AARP to assist others with tax preparations.

Patricia was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, and grandmother along with being an avid reader.  Her wisdom and knowledge she freely shared will be deeply missed.

Memorial graveside services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Mount Comfort Cemetery with Tanner Riley officiating under the direction of Beard’s Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Second Mile Ministry at University Baptist Church, Fayetteville, AR or Willard Walker Hospice Home, Fayetteville, AR.

Special thanks and appreciation to Gabby Gonzalez for her loving care and the staff of the Willard Walker Hospice Home.

Karan, I am sad to read today that your mom has passed. I was in one of those Adult Ed classes years ago and enjoyed her and the class immensely. Then after I met you, I found out she was your mom! Sweet, sweet lady.

    Karan and Kellee:

We are so sorry for your loss. Your mom was a powerhouse while being an nice and gentle woman. We know you will miss her so much. My mom was saying that all the years at UBC she always thought your mom was silently going to be able to change the world. And she did.
