Randle Leon Oxford, August 14, 1945~September 10, 2020

Sep 11, 2020

Randle Leon Oxford, 75, born August 14, 1945 in Winona, Arkansas passed peacefully surrounded by the love of his family and friends after a brief illness.  Randle was the son of Vivian Oxford Hall and Alex Oxford both of whom preceded him in death.  Randle was married to the love of his life, Mary, for 56 years.  They met as teenagers at church in Little Rock. They made Northwest Arkansas their home in the 1960’s.  Randle sold cars for a living and he never forgot a car or a face.  He always had a good story to tell and was known for his “dad quotes” that provided his children guidance, wisdom, and a healthy dose of fear during their formative years and a great deal of laughter in their adulthood.  After more than 40 years in the car business, Randle settled into retirement spending hours each week volunteering at the Veterans Administration Hospital MRI unit and later at the Hope Cancer Resource Center: Highlands Oncology.  At Highlands, he never forgot a patient, he always knew their favorite blankets, how they liked their coffee, and their favorite magazines to keep them company during chemo. He loved his volunteer time. He missed it terribly during COVID.  Randle had other loves, his four grandchildren, Ryan and Lauryn Oxford of Jonesboro and Jack and Ella Flesher of Fayetteville.  They made him so proud.   He also loved his Arkansas Razorback Baseball team.  He loved springtime because of baseball season, and nothing would keep him away from a home game.   He loved golf with Randy and Mary, he wasn’t the best golfer, but he was known for a hole-in- one on his very first round which sealed his love for the game.  He also loved his patio, time with our mom, trips to Mountain View to his favorite picking park to listen to music, and his dogs Sophie and Molly.

Randle embraced sobriety in 2014, he thrived in his AA group, he made great friends in Al Anon and became a sponsor supporting others in their sobriety.

Randle was a good man with a quick wit, a funny story, and a good heart to match.  He is already missed, and our hearts are broken by his passing.

He is preceded in death by siblings, Bobby Oxford, Hulon Oxford, Alberta Cox and Alice Betty Jean Edwards.  He is survived by his love Mary Oxford of Fayetteville; his son, Randy Oxford and his wife Lesa Oxford of Jonesboro; his daughter, Angela Oxford of Fayetteville; and so many, many friends.

His family is having a private memorial service for immediate family and a drop-in reception following for friends and family to attend Friday, September 18, 2020 from 10 am- 1 pm.  For details please email angoxford@yahoo.com.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the volunteer program at Hope Cancer Resource Center: Highlands Oncology in his memory are encouraged.

    Dear Mary (and family),
I am truly sorry to hear of Randal’s passing. A good heart stopped beating, but his kindness will be remembered by all who knew him. Year’s back, I remember that although Randal did not know me personally, he went out of his way to get my crushed car door replaced simply because you, Mary, asked him to. It was a pleasure and inspiration to meet him years later and get to know you both as a devoted couple. My heart and my prayers are for you and your family to find comfort and strength in the days to come.

Mary our deepest sympathy to you and your family. There are no words to fully express our sadness to learn of Randle’s death. In the 1970’s he was such a good, honest understanding person and Bob and I speak of him often.

Dear Mary, thinking of you and your family during this grevious time. It’s too bad sad times are the lynch pin to knowing how long time friends are. I believe we ran into each other some years back at Walmart. Blessed be,

Dear Mary, I am sorry for the loss of your husband. I didn’t know he volunteered at the VA. I didn’t know your husband but I met him last year when you were eating at Green Submarine. I am grateful to you for selling my parents house. That was a scary time for me. With sincere sympathy. Karon Poage
