May 1, 2020

Roger Bryon Tisdale, 73, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville.  He was born September 17, 1946 in Fayetteville to Jarvis Vernon Tisdale and Mima Henry Tisdale.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ann Tisdale.

Roger is survived by his son, Donny Tisdale and wife Sherry; his daughter, Sherry Rukgaber and husband Phil; his brother, James Warren Tisdale and wife Joyce; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968 where he spent two tours in Vietnam.  He owned and operated a sawmill for several years cutting railroad ties and rough sawn lumber.  He called his operation the “Thick and Thin Lumber Co”.  He always had several head of cattle and later raised hogs for Tyson Food Co for many years.  He started a part-time job at the Postal Service in 1983 that ended up turning into a career.  He retired from the Postal Service as a Rural Letter Carrier in 2002.

He loved working outside, going to auctions and visiting with people.  He loved telling jokes and he had a great sense of humor.  If we asked what he was up to he would often reply “about 6 feet”.  Even once in his last few days when we asked, “how do you feel?, he replied “with my hands”.  He also enjoyed making puzzles that would both frustrate and entertain.  He loved when his granddaughter would ride her horse down to his house or when one of the grandsons would come down to go fishing or hunting.  He will be deeply missed.

His visitation is scheduled for this Sunday, May 3, 2020 from 2-4 PM at Beard’s Funeral Chapel.

There will be a graveside service on Monday, May 4, 2020 at 10 AM at the Round Mountain Cemetery under the direction of Beard’s Chapel.

Sherry and Donny, I am Ann’s niece. I spoke to Uncle Roger a week ago and learned he had been sick. He was a special guy and loved very much by our family and he was still a part of our family even after Ann passed. He was such a blessing to me when my Dad was sick, he helped me many times. Please accept my condolences on behalf of my family. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with each of you during this time. He will be greatly missed.
