Sara Shinault Day died March 14, 2012 of COPD. She was born Jan.17, 1935 in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Charles Eugene Shinault and Myrtle Williams Shinault. She graduated from Byrd High School in Shreveport in 1953. She had six children: Linda, Sandra, Jeff, Marc, Stephen Jr., and Katy. She attended the University of Arkansas and received her B.A. in Art in 1978 and her M.Ed. in 1988. She taught for over 20 years at Farmington High School and Fayetteville High School. She was an inspiring teacher, ever encouraging her students to believe in themselves and try something new, even long after their graduation. She was a dedicated mother, a devoted grandmother, an imaginative artist, a diligent list-maker, a creative seamstress, an enthusiastic reader, and an avid supporter of the arts. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas and St.
Joseph’s Catholic Churches.
She was preceded in death by three of her children: Linda Day Hauser, Sandra Day Mills and Jeffrey Shinault Day; and by her sister Dorothy, and brothers Patrick and Charles, Jr. She is survived by her children: Marcus Day of Fayetteville, Stephen Day, Jr. and wife Kate, of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Katy Day Inhofe, and husband Doug Inhofe, of Tulsa; her grandchildren: Jason Garriott of Huntsville, Lindsay Sherry, Rachael Sherry, Susan Day, Caroline Day, and Jackson Day, all of Fayetteville, and Alex and Gregory Day of Raleigh, North Carolina; and her great-grandchildren: Mason Streett, Justine Sherry and Jadon Sherry, all of Fayetteville; and many friends.
A private memorial service is being held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Walton Arts Center or the Willard Walker Hospice Home.
