Verda Grace Vallier Jones Combs, June 24, 1925~December 6, 2015

Dec 10, 2015

Combs, Verda copyVerda Grace Vallier Jones Combs passed away peacefully in her sleep in her own beloved home on Stanley Mountain in Combs, Arkansas on December 6, 2015 surrounded by her loving family and her beloved dog, Ginger, at the ripe old age of 90 1/2.  She was a devout Christian and lived and witnessed her faith every minute of her day.

She was born on June 24, 1925 in Richmond, Kansas to Bryan and Fern Vallier.

She is survived by her children, Cynthia Grayce and Ken Jones; her step-daughter, Peggy Dooley;  her grandchildren, Sean, Elizabeth, Jonathan;  great-grandkids, Aidan, Dylan, Hazel and Harrison; her sister, Norma Schmitt; sister-in law, Mary Lou Vallier; and adoring nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Oren K. Jones and Bert M. Combs; her brother, Stanley Vallier; and sister, Nina Mae Vallier. Her friends were like family, and too many to count, but she cherished them with her whole heart and encouraged each and every one of them to follow the sweet life of Jesus.

Our special thanks goes to her “Crocky”, Crockett Boyd and family, and Bill Corbin, for the loving care and devotion that enabled her to stay in her home until her end days and live the independent life she both desired and, yes, even demanded! When one of her children might try for a different outcome, she was often heard to say “I am 90 years old and I can eat what I want, say what I want, go where I want, and do what I want.” OK, mom….:)

She raised her family as an RN for 47 years with “grace” and hard work, and ministered to anyone far and wide who needed it.  She especially loved encouraging and teaching young children in Bible School, Verda Grace, Our gift from God. She was our encourager, our confidant, our anchor, the light that shined before us.

Truly one of a kind, her “Indomitable Spirit” will live on forever in our hearts.

Her Memorial “Celebration of Life” service will be held on December 19, 2015 at 11 A.M. at the Combs Baptist Church in Combs, AR.

A potluck dinner will be held after the service for all.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Combs Baptist Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Cremation arrangements by Beard’s Funeral Chapel.

I have known Verda for many years, she moved to Combs when she married Bert and through her brought Bert to our church, she has had such a positive impact to all that know her and we will truly miss her. My children were small and Verda still recalls teaching my oldest daughter in her Sunday school class. Our hearts break with you and for you for the loss of such a special person. We will miss her but so happy to know she is well and happy in Heaven! She will be that special angel watching over us.
